Cuomo For Vice President! Not The Time For Gender Or Racial Balancing.
Shortly after clinching the Democratic presidential nomination with his overwhelming primary victories, Joe Biden promised to have a female and possibly black running mate in the November 2020 presidential election. But, with the paramount goal of all Democrats being to defeat Donald Trump, creating a winning ticket overrides all other considerations.
The coronavirus crisis and lockdown has unexpectedly changed everything. In a time of crisis, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York has emerged as the foremost trusted spokesman of the nation, projecting calm, decisiveness, likeability, strength of character, intelligence, charisma, and very strong leadership qualities. No other person of either party matches him. He would be a formidable running mate for Biden, and guarantee a landslide victory over Trump and the Republican Party, both a veritable disgrace over the past four years.
Vice presidents must be highly qualified to take over as president in an emergency, in terms of intelligence, character, personality, and executive experience. They must inspire a high degree of confidence in the majority of the nation’s citizens. Cuomo is in a league of his own in this regard. No other Democratic politician, man or woman, black, brown, yellow, or white, can match him in those qualities and in his managerial experience as governor. It’s not even close. Therefore, Biden should not be held to his prior promise. He should be allowed, actually encouraged, by all Democrats to nominate by far the strongest running mate available. That is Andrew Cuomo, without a doubt. Biden-Cuomo is by far the strongest ticket.
This is a critical time for the nation. Replacing Trump and the Republican Party must be the priority of the Democratic Party and of all its supporters, be they male or female, of whatever color or race or ancestral background. This is no time for politically correct gender or racial balancing of the ticket. This is the time for having the strongest, most competent, most experienced ticket, one that inspires the confidence and trust of the great majority of Americans, including traditional Republican voters. This is the time for the ticket which can generate widespread enthusiasm and is guaranteed to win the presidential election. By a landslide. That ticket is Biden-Cuomo.
